26.05.11 .Martin Smith has been selected by the Edinburgh International Film Festival to participate in their Talent Lab. EIFF Talent Lab selects UK and international directors and screenwriters to discuss the industry, their projects and ideas with a selection of invited industry professionals selected from the world's key film industry players. Martin has prepared a new feature film outline, SHOWS, for the Lab. The Lab will take place during the 2011 Edinburgh International Film Festival, starting on the 15th June.
23.05.11 .Martin Smith's JIMMY documentary will also screen on Saturday 11th June in the Documentaries on Devonshire Green event at Sheffield Docfest, screening alongside Albert and David Maysles classic GREY GARDENS with an intro in person by documentary pioneer Albert Maysles.

11.05.11 .Martin Smith's documentary JIMMY will premiere at Sheffield Doc Fest in June. The film shall screen on the 9th and 10th June in the Short Docs and Doc/UK strands and alongside feature film Weibo's War. More details can be found here.
17.01.11 .Martin's documentary JIMMY has been commissioned by the Scottish Documentary Institute. The film will be produced by the SDI with BBC Scotland and Creative Scotland. Martin shall be director, editor and cinematographer on the project.
23.10.10 .Filmmaker Martin Smith has been selected by the Scottish Documentary Institute's 'Bridging the Gap' scheme to develop his documentary project JIMMY about the disabled rights campaigner Jimmy McIntosh MBE.
07.05.13 .JIMMY has been selected for the Gdansk International Documentary Festival in Poland. The film will screen from the 5th to the 9th June.
14.02.13 .TRACKS is screening at the Glasgow International Film Festival on Saturday 16th February. The film, commissioned by DigiCult, Scottish Screen and the UK Film Council and winner of the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Short Film, screens as part of GMAC's 30 year celebration of film.

28.06.12 .Martin's film JIMMY has been selected for DocuWeeks™ the International Documentary Association’s yearly theatrical showcase, designed to help qualify documentaries for Academy AwardŽ consideration. 18.06.12 .Martin's film JIMMY has won the Franklyn Marshall Award for Short Film at the CurtDoc International Documentary Festival in Vidreres, Spain. The film was in competition against films from 16 countries. The film, commissioned by the Scottish Documentary Institute was produced in association with Creative Scotland and BBC Scotland.
22.05.12 .Creative Scotland's inaugural Accelerator feature development programme has selected SHOWS, the latest project by writer/director Martin Smith for development. The feature will be mentored by the likes of producer Andrea Calderwood and script editor Kate Leys. The projects were selected by Creative Scotland, Playwrights' Studio Scotland and a panel of industry experts. Caroline Parkinson, director of creative development, Creative Scotland, said: "With the guidance of expert industry advisors, Accelerator aims to prepare projects editorially and to arm the creative teams involved with a strong understanding of the realities of the current market for film finance". 24.04.12 .Martin's film for Stolichnaya, TWENTY FOUR FOUR, made through the Multiply Agency for their Stoli Originals project has its premiere at Sundance London at the O2 on Friday 27th April. For more details see here.

20.03.12 .JIMMY has been selected for competition at the CurtDoc International Documentary Festival in Girona, Spain. Twenty films from sixteen countries have been selected for competition. Screenings are on the 14th, 15th & 16th June at the Theater Casino La Unio, Vidreres. You can view a trailer for the festival here.
12.03.12 .Martin has been Nominated for a BAFTA New Talent Award from BAFTA Scotland for JIMMY in the Director of Photography category. The awards ceremony takes place on the 22nd of March at Oran Mor.

07.02.12 .JIMMY has been selected for the Glasgow Short Film Festival. It will screen in competition in both the International Shorts and Scottish Shorts categories. Screenings are on the 9th, 10th 11th and 12th February at the CCA Glasgow.

20.10.11 .JIMMY has been selected for the Document International Film Festival, Glasgow. The film screens on Saturday 22nd October at Trongate 103, Glasgow. Martin will speak on a panel about human rights and documentary filmmaking following the screening.
03.10.11 .Martin is shooting a film for Stolichnaya through the Multiply Agency for their Stoli Originals project. Stoli Originals is looking to document the life of four unique people from around the UK. Participants are being sought from Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales. 20.08.10 .TRACKS is screening at Short and Sweet, London, Monday 23rd August. The film, commissioned by DigiCult, Scottish Screen and the UK Film Council was winner of the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Short Film.
21.05.10 .JUST ENOUGH DOUBT has been nominated Best Short Film at The Jim Poole Scottish Short Film Awards. The film's UK premierre will take place at the Cameo Cinema on Sunday 30th May.
